Save the rideshare trip receipt

Updated 2026-09-19 · Fact-checked educational article

Quick answer

Pickup pin, trip map, and the app receipt are often easier to preserve the same night than a later records request.

What the app still has tonight

A trip receipt usually shows pickup and drop-off pins, a route, a timestamp, and a fare. Screenshot or email that receipt before the trip rolls off the first screen. If you were a passenger, the rider account — not the driver’s — is the one you can open.

Why the pin matters

A later dispute about which lane or which lot you were in is easier when the app’s map is saved. Photograph the actual curb or garage bay as well. The receipt is not a substitute for scene photos.

Company claims channels are separate

Rideshare companies publish their own incident processes. Those processes are not this website, and they are not a court. Keep the trip ID so whoever you talk to next is not guessing.

Fault, insurance stacking, and who to notify first depend on the state and the facts. A licensed attorney can tell you what to do with the receipt. We will not quote a case value from it.
